Learning and Development
Our goal for each child is to provide an enriched environment which allows children to explore, create, problem solve, and experience through "hands on" activities. The curriculum introduces specific knowledge and skills which your child will have the opportunity to learn. Play helps children develop many skills: cognitive, language/literacy, social- emotional as well as fine and gross motor skills.
Cognitive Skills
This area develops memory, problem solving, improves focus and attention, decision making, processing information, and learning language. Cognition includes areas of Math, Science, Social Studies.
Language and Literacy
Early literacy consists of print concepts. Preschoolers are generally not ready to read on their own but are exposed to many areas of language and literacy to prepare them for future reading and writing. EX) print has meaning, words are read from left to right, phonological awareness, letter and letter sound recognition, and rhyming words are only some areas that we focus on at this age.
Social- Emotional Skills
While playing children learn to interact and form relationships with other children. We teach and guide students to understand rules and boundaries in the classroom, sharing and taking turns, expressing needs and wants appropriately, recognizing emotions in themselves and others, resolving conflicts correctly and expressing sympathy for others.
Fine and Gross Motor Skills
Children strengthen their muscles while playing in the classroom, muscle room and on the playground.
Fine motor skills include using the small muscles in hands, fingers, and wrists. Stacking blocks, putting puzzles together, picking up small objects, cutting with scissors, writing, drawing, and coloring help strengthen small muscles
Gross motor skills involve muscles like arms and legs. Larger muscles are made stronger while playing on the playground, balancing, riding tricycles, jumping hopscotch, running, and dancing.
